Customer Reviews about Salinas Animal Shelter:
- ★ ★ ★ ★ ★Being a out of state truck driver, I found a small terrier mix puppy scared and hungry, I feed it and called on Saturday one hour before closing, they were really nice on the phone but didn't have a animal control officer on the weekend's, suggested I call the police department, which I did and was told they were backlogged two hours minimum, I said I can wait, ten minutes later a officer showd up and helped me capture the puppy,I sorry I forgotten the officers name but he was great and took the puppy to the shelter, I then called back and the lady said she would wait and make sure the puppy was taken care of, thank you all for helping a little puppy who wouldn't have made it on the street much longer, so everyone get up and go adopt a dog or cat, I have a rescue dog on my truck and she's great. Peace out.By Tyson Webb, May 02, 2017
- ★ ★ ★ ★ ★Staff was very friendly and made me feel so much more comfortable about the puppy I found and took to the shelter. I kept her for 2 days before I gave her up and it was very hard for me to let her go but I already have 2 dogs and really didn't think I could handle a third. Everything about the shelter felt like they truly love the animals. I will continue to watch her online and if she doesn't get adopted. I will probably take her anyway.By Connie Read, October 16, 2016
- ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆Speaking from a place if some knowledge as I work at a wildlife rehabilitation center and have a degree in Biology. I found the same extremely dirty, skinny, and flea covered cat on the street twice. The second time I brought him in was told (rather rudely) that he was a perfectly healthy outdoor cat and that we could let him go which is fair except his body condition is so poor for a 14 year old cat (all spine, hips, and ribs showing) that I felt it was necessary to ask if he had any primary conditions. At first they said no (which directly contradicted what they told ne the first time I brought him in which was that yes he had a primary condition and a secondary consition due to being outside though they refused to tell me what, again fair he's not my cat). I pointed out his body condition and symptoms (frequent urination and diarrhea) they then changed their story and told me rather rudely that he probably has starting renal failure or diabetes and that the owner takes great care if him and we should just drop him off where we found him. Renal (ie kidney) and diabetes are guaranteed death for a cat if left untreated (and there are treatments), and an owner taking very good care of a cat does not equal a healthy cat. Some owners cannot afford to treat their animals conditions as may be the case for this cat, and renal failure and diabetes are not comfortable ways to die. I realize the shelter can't do anything once the owner has made their choice but regardless they were extremely unprofessional and patronizing with someone who didn't have the full story of this cat and only wanted to make sure he was cared for. Not to mention they lied to my face regarding his health. I won't deny that I was more than a little heart broken dropping him off on the street where I found him. I'm sure his owner loves him but he will die from his treatable conditions. All I can say is that this shelter clearly has lost sight of their mission to care for every animal that comes through their door and clearly do not understand the sensitivity required in animal rescue and care.By LeyliaFireHeart, September 29, 2016
